Opel Adam, 2013

  •  Opel Adam, 2013

The all-new Opel Adam available in dealerships and start making an impression on our roads. Opel's chic, urban small car and champion of individualization will turn heads in our cities just as it did at its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in early September. Its modern, bold and colorful look ensures this, as does its almost unlimited potential for customization that makes virtually each and every Adam unique.

With the all-new Adam, Opel is entering the growing lifestyle A-segment. Short and strong-backed, Adam is almost 3.70 meters long and 1.72 meters wide (excl. mirrors). A funky three-door hatchback, it is perfect for urban environments. Its driving dynamics, however, also shine outside the city thanks to chassis and steering settings that focus on fun and agility. Inside its cabin, Adam offers seating for four people who benefit from a premium-inspired atmosphere; front passengers enjoy a high degree of roominess unusual for a small car. Adam's cockpit too can be individualized according to its owner's taste with a wide choice of colors, decors, stylish headliners and light effects.

The Opel Adam also provides premium technologies from upper segments. The new IntelliLink onboard infotainment system which integrates the owner's smartphone in the car (Android and Apple iOS) makes it the best connected small car. Other features ideal for Adam's natural urban environment are a new-generation Park Assist that automatically parks the car, a Side Blind Spot Alert and a power steering system including a "light touch" CITY mode.

Opel Adam does not only provide more individuality than its competitors: with a high level of standard equipment, it also offers more car for the money. The entry price for the Adam with the 51 kW/70 hp 1.2-liter gasoline engine is 11,500 euros (RRP incl. VAT in Germany). Even premium technologies and vast individualization options are affordable. For example the IntelliLink infotainment system is available for just 300 euros extra, and the starlight headliner illuminated by 64 LED lights that create the impression of a starry night sky for only 380 euros.

Lively wheels: Adam, the newcomer in the small lifestyle car segment
Adam comes at a key moment in Opel's product offensive. Since 2008, Opel has completely reshaped its model line-up, starting with the flagship Insignia, continuing with its high volume models, and now entering or opening new segments of the market: The Ampera (electric car with range extender), the Mokka (small SUV), Adam (fashionable small car) and the future Cascada (mid-size convertible) all are part of the third wave of this vast growth program and contribute to extend Opel's portfolio.

Currently Opel is particularly strengthening its presence in the A and B segments, which now includes the 3.70 meter-long Adam, the 3.74 meter-long Agila, the 4.00 meter-long core model Corsa, the 4.28 meter-long new Mokka SUV and the 4.29 meter-long Meriva. With the introduction of the fashionable Adam, Opel also rounds off its A-segment offer alongside the 5-door Agila. While the Agila convinces with its high level of functionality and its practical strengths, Opel Adam stands out with its unparalleled individualization potential, muscular design and superior technology.

Opel expects almost 80 percent of Adam customers to be private buyers, with more than half of those being new customers. But Adam will also make a statement as a signature vehicle for companies and businesses: around 20 percent of sales are expected to be in the fleet and commercial sector. Generally, Adam should attract young and young-at-heart customers of both genders with attitude: they want their car to reflect their individual personality. They place great value on fashion consciousness and individuality; they don't just follow trends, they also actively create them and so are opinion-leaders.

Experts predict the lifestyle-orientated sub-segment in which the Opel Adam is a new contender will continue to grow steadily over the next years. Since 2000, sales of stylish cars of the A-segment (around 3.70 m length) have risen by around 30 percent and of B-segment luxury-oriented cars (around 4.00 m length) by over 110 percent. In 2011 nearly 630,000 units of these trendy cars were registered in Europe, versus 450,000 in 2008. Opel now wants to conquer this growth market with the Adam. There is an especially high demand for small cars in Italy, which might become Adam's largest market. Other main markets for Opel's new lifestyle small car will be Germany, the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands.

Design & Individualization
Adam is Opel's first lifestyle, small vehicle. The sub-segment it enters was initially shaped by modern automotive interpretations of "retro" themes, but Opel deliberately went its own, innovative way. It has given the Opel Adam bold proportions and a unique, modern design without any reference to the past. To further stand out, Adam also comes with more new ideas than any of its competitors.

The first and core idea is that it can be individualized more than any other car. In three years of development - from the first sketch up to the world premiere in Paris - Opel designers, engineers and manufacturing experts developed outstanding new features that allow customizing Adam far beyond familiar recipes. Malcolm Ward, Design Director says: "There was an outstanding "can do" spirit and vibrant energy in the team when we created Adam, and it's amazing to see how many of the ideas that were generated in the early creative phase made it to production. Thanks to this incredibly fresh and audacious approach, Opel Adam can be personalized more than any car in the segment with virtually unlimited exterior and interior color, fabric, décor, wheel, etc. combination possibilities." For instance, Opel Adam introduces for the first time in the automobile industry three design features that enhance its great individualization potential, such as exchangeable colored wheel clips, printed headliners and backlit decors on the instrument panel.

Bold exterior with iconic silhouette and premium inspired interior
Adam introduces Opel's award-winning design philosophy of "sculptural artistry meets German precision" to the fashion-led A-segment. It first stands out with its muscular, original look that bucks the trend of retro-based design, as well as with bold, powerful proportions: with 3.70 meters in length and 1.72 meters width (excluding mirrors), Adam has the same length but is wider than a MINI, and looks solidly planted onto the road.

Adam's striking and unique "floating" roof which is visually disconnected from the body allows a perfect execution of a two-tone color combination - the basic individualization feature. The car's name badge is - unlike with most other cars - placed at the end of the chrome "signature" window molding on the rear pillar, which adds to its unique appeal. In the wide front grille, the Opel Adam has been given the new wing-shaped chrome bar with the embossed Opel emblem as introduced in the new Astra line-up. On the flanks typically sculpted Opel design cues such as the blade in the lower door and the characteristic crisp "shock wave" around the door handles are reminiscent of the Astra GTC. The headlamps feature wing-shaped daytime running lights (DRL), also typical for Opel. For the first time in the A-segment, both the headlamps and the taillights are available with state-of-the-art energy-saving LED technology.

The interior design delivers what Adam's upmarket exterior promises: style and premium- inspired ambience in a remarkably spacious environment for a small car. With sculpted, harmonious surfaces and graceful flowing lines just like its bigger brand brothers Astra, Meriva and Insignia, the Adam rounds off Opel´s brand promise in its latest and smallest declination. The new Adam-exclusive round, chronograph-style instruments and chrome bezeled switches convey an aura of sporty precision.

Just Unique - virtually no Adam looks like the other
The new Opel Adam grabs a lot of attention because of its unmistakable design, and even more due to its virtually unlimited customization options. Thanks to a wide range of exterior colors, a broad choice of wheel designs plus many interior trim options including different décor panels, ambient lighting packages and an array of headliners unrivalled in the automotive industry, Adam is Opel's new champion of personalization. Countless combination possibilities of body and roof colors, rims, interior configurations and trim options offer the Adam buyer choices not available for any other car. So virtually no Adam looks like the other, making every car just unique.

On the exterior, customers can choose from a spectrum of 12 body colors, the names of which evoke cultural references movie lovers will immediately feel familiar with - such as "I'll be Black", "Papa don't Peach", "Purple Fiction", "James Blonde", "Saturday White Fever" and "Buzz Lightgreen". To go with each body color there is a matching and personalized car key. So even when the owner has parked the Opel Adam, a highly original and personalized part of it always remains with him or her. Adam's roof can be given the same color as the body. However, for a more contrasting effect, three roof colors can also be combined with any body color: the glossy "I'll be Black", the light cream "White my Fire" and the dark and rich "Men in Brown".

Instead of offering a conventional trim hierarchy, Adam breaks new ground with 3 different trim worlds or "moods". They set the scene for the first level of individualization: Adam JAM is bold and funky, appealing to the very fashion conscious customer out there; Adam GLAM is elegant and stylish, targeting people with refined tastes; and Adam SLAM is quite masculine, sporty and streetwise.

On the next level of customization, owners can choose from 3 option packs for each of the 3 trim worlds: so, Adam JAM, Adam GLAM and Adam SLAM can all be further sharpened and tailored to individual tastes with the two-tone "Black-" or "White Pack", the flamboyant "Twisted Pack" or the bold "Extreme Pack". The Black Pack offers extra elegance with roof, exterior mirrors and rims all in black, with the White Pack having the same touches in white. Opel Adam with the Twisted Pack shines with colorful exterior mirrors, grille bar, rims and interior décor either in green for the Adam JAM version, in brown for the Adam GLAM or red for the Adam SLAM. And the Extreme Pack makes the car absolutely unmistakable with eye-catching wheels and ornaments on the mirrors, grille bar, paintwork and interior décor.

Opel's new lifestyle car can be further personalized with three different external decal packages (Adam JAM "Splat", Adam GLAM "Fly" and Adam SLAM "Stripes") that are applied to mirrors and other parts of the car, for example the sides and rear.

In total Adam offers 31 different wheel designs and colors with sizes ranging from 15" to 18", including rims in "Vintage" or "Horns" design which takes the classic form design a step further. Unconventional sweeping designs like "Boomerang", "Hurricane", "Turbine", and "Twister" will also certainly turn heads. An extra hint for an unmistakable Adam character: even after customers have taken delivery of their car, some 18" wheels featuring completely new, interchangeable color clips can be personalized even further. Opel is the first and only automaker in the world to offer these clips, available in six different multi-part sets of colors that are clipped onto the five spokes of the rim. One can for instance match the color of his clips to Adam's body color, create strong contrasts or play with bi-color combinations. Opel Adam is the only car that allows its wheel colors to be individually selected according to individual tastes.

Unique and fresh interior moods with backlit interior décor
Inside the cabin there is also a wealth of personalization possibilities. 4 base colors are available: black, cocoa, purple and white. They combine with 15 different seat designs which also feature a broad choice of materials and colors. In addition, 19 different sets of decoration panels on the dashboard and the doors are available. These panels can be ordered separately so that Adam's interior can constantly be personalized and tailored to the changing tastes of the owner - or to changing owners. Among the 19 offered panels, 11 are painted and match the exterior colors, 8 are covered with premium foil featuring decorative patterns - 2 of which are even backlit via LEDs, that create a soft, glowing appearance that is absolutely unique in the automotive industry.

This exclusive design element is combined with an ambient lighting package that consists of indirect lights that illuminate the door pockets, center console and passenger footwell. As part of the ambient lighting package, at the touch of a button, 8 different light colors can be selected - one alone or so that they continuously change - and dimmed to set the tone for the interior. Red, two amber tones, yellow, green, blue, ice blue and white can be selected. This once again underscores the Adam's unparalleled wealth of personalization.

Inside of the cabin the roof can also be personalized to suit every taste. A large sunroof can fill Opel Adam with natural light. But the printed headliners are an industry first that have never been seen before. Three motifs are available, with clouds "Sky", autumn leaves "Fly" or checkered flag "Go". However, Adam's most spectacular headliner is the "Starlight" illuminated by 64 LED lights creating the impression of a starry night sky. It is absolutely unique in this vehicle segment - and in all other segments, except for the most expensive limousines in the world. Romantics can combine the Sky motif with the Starlight illumination.

Opel Ampera, 2012

  • Opel Ampera, 2012

The revolutionary Opel Ampera celebrated its world premiere at the 79th Geneva Motor Show. General Motors Europe president, Carl-Peter Forster, unveiled the extended-range electric vehicle and announced plans to put the car into production in late 2011.

The Opel Ampera also be offered with right-hand drive in the United Kingdom by Opel's sister-brand, Vauxhall.

The five-door, four-seat Opel Ampera is influenced by Opel's award-winning design language of sculptural artistry meets German precision, incorporating several styling cues from the innovative Flextreme and GTC Concept show cars

The Opel Ampera's wheels are turned electrically at all times and speeds. For journeys up to 60 km (MVEG), it runs on electricity stored in the 16-kWh, lithium-ion battery, and emits zero CO2. When the battery's energy is depleted, electricity from an engine-generator extends the Ampera's range to more than 500 km.

The Opel Ampera can be plugged into any household 230v outlet for charging. GM Europe is analyzing the requirements of a recharging infrastructure for plug-in electric cars with energy companies, including Iberdrola of Spain.

Opel Ampera Gets Power and Refinement from Voltec Propulsion System
The revolutionary Opel Ampera the first emission-free, electrically driven automobile in Europe suitable for everyday driving. With its Voltec electric propulsion system providing lively acceleration and high levels of refinement, the five-door Opel Ampera seats four passengers in comfort, offers a useful trunk for their luggage, and features an extended range of more than 500 kilometers.

Electricity drives the Opel Ampera's wheels at all times and speeds. For trips up to 60 km (MVEG), power is supplied by the electricity stored in the cutting-edge, 16-kWh, lithium-ion battery.

While driving on electricity delivered by the battery, the Opel Ampera emits zero CO2. When the battery's energy is depleted, a gasoline/E85-fueled engine-generator seamlessly provides electricity to power the electric drive unit while simultaneously sustaining the charge of the battery. The mode of operation extends the range to 500 kilometers, until the battery can be charged by plugging the vehicle's on-board charge system into a standard household 230v outlet.

Opel Ampera gives driver confidence and peace of mind
Unlike a conventional battery-electric vehicle, the Opel Ampera eliminates "range anxiety," giving the confidence and peace of mind that the driver will not be stranded by a depleted battery.

The Opel Ampera's battery pack manufactured by GM at the first lithium-ion production facility to be operated by a major automaker in the United States. More than 220 lithium-ion cells in the T-shaped pack provide ample power. The nearly silent electric drive unit delivers 370 Nm of instant torque, the equivalent of 150 horsepower, zero to 100 km/h acceleration in around nine seconds, and a top speed of 161 km/h.

The Opel Ampera well-suited to the daily driving schedule of most European customers. For example, approximately 80 percent of German drivers travel less than 50 km daily.

Opel estimates that an electrically driven kilometer in the Opel Ampera cost about one-fifth compared to a conventional gasoline vehicle, at current fuel prices.

Opel Agila, 2008

Opel Agila 2008

With five doors and five seats, the new Opel Agila is not only as practical as its predecessor, which sold over 440,000 units, but is now also much more dynamically designed. The small, versatile Opel was unveiled to the public at the 2007 IAA in Frankfurt (September 13 - 23, 2007) and made its market premiere in spring 2008. It boasts balanced proportions, soft curves and a distinctive side graphic. Its passengers still sit high and upright, but the roofline has been dynamically lowered and now blends into a smooth arc toward the rear. This helps create the Opel Agila's aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.35 - a relatively low figure for a vehicle of this size. The urban car is now 20 centimeters longer, six centimeters wider, but seven centimeters lower than its predecessor.

The front boasts typical Opel styling. With its round headlamps integrated into almond-shaped lamp units that echo the new Corsa, the Opel Agila sees the world through wide eyes. The tapering of the front and rear bumpers are also typical Opel elements, just like the crease in the hood.

The same is true for the interior: the boring days are over. A wide selection of fresh colors and modern styles create an ambience that's enhanced even more by the spacious headroom. The versatile five-seater's high seating position ensures good visibility, while the high placed gear stick and height-adjustable steering wheel with radio remote controls ensure easy operation. The rev counter is housed separately on the instrument panel.

But it's not just car essentials that the new Opel Agila stows away easily. Despite its compact exterior dimensions, the new Opel urban car boasts a surprisingly large luggage compartment. Its standard capacity up to the luggage compartment cover is 225 liters, large enough for a strollere. One turn of a handle drops the rear bench seat back, increasing the load volume to an impressive 1050 liters - a top value in this segment. The rear bench seat and back also splits 60:40 for even greater versatility.

All Opel Agila models have a wide range of standard equipment, including safety features such as ABS, front and side airbags for driver and front passenger, front passenger airbag deactivation and mountings for the ISOFIX child seat system.

Two gasoline engines make their world premiere in the new Opel Agila. Supplied by cooperation partner Suzuki, they share the same design - aluminum cylinder block and head, as well as two overhead camshafts.

The entry-level unit is the almost one-liter, three-cylinder gasoline engine. The four-valve unit produces 65 hp (48 kW) and has a top speed of 160 km/h. The 1.2-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine produces 86 hp (63 kW), accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in less than 12 seconds and has a top speed of 174 km/h (values for five-speed manual version).

The fuel-saving master among the Opel Agila engines is the 1.3-liter common-rail turbo-diesel. Developed by GM Powertrain, the diesel engine is a true multi-talent and also offers an especially efficient alternative in the Corsa and Astra model lines. In the new Opel Agila it produces 75 hp (55 kW), has a top speed of 162 km/h and a zero to 100 km/h sprint of 13.5 seconds. The powerful diesel unit with a maximum torque of 190 Nm is very economical: on average it consumes less than five liters per 100 km, which represents a CO2 per kilometer value of under 130 g (finalized values not yet available).

Make the Opel Agila even more agile - that was the aim during chassis development. The new dynamic look is also reflected in the car's responsiveness. The Opel Agila's chassis, which features A-arms and McPherson struts in front and a torsion beam axle in the rear, is tuned for driving fun. Depending on the market and equipment variant, the Opel Agila also features an Electronic Stability Program (ESP).

Opel GTC Concept, 2007

Opel GTC Concept, 2007

The four-seat coupé is powered by a 220 kW/300 hp, 2.8-liter V6 turbo gasoline engine and features an intelligent, electronically-controlled four-wheel drive system, which provides optimum traction and stability as well as excellent agility in all driving conditions.
Brand-typical on-board flexibility is ensured by the thoughtful "Flex4" system (patent application submitted). The backs of both rear seats can be docked separately to the front seats by remote control, creating a spacious three or two-seater with flat load floor and up to 1020 liters of luggage compartment capacity. As is typical of Opel cars, the seats do not have to be removed or installed.

Dynamic design: Visually communicating the Opel brand promise
The GTC Concept reveals the next-generation of Opel styling. Much like the Opel Speedster did in 1999, or the GTC Genève Concept did in 2003 this car marks a break in the evolution of Opel's design language and signals that the next chapter is about to be written.

Key elements of the silk grey-lacquered Coupé concept car finished with a matte grey paint (length/width/height: 4830/1867/1432 millimeters, wheelbase: 2737 mm) begin with an aggressive front end performance face emphasized by large aluminum vertical intakes that intersect the headlamps. These vertical elements are mimicked in the rear exhaust elements, proposing an unmistakable down-the-road signature performance graphic, coming or going.

The proud front is highlighted by a prominent, trapezoidal grille with signature Opel bar and Blitz, executed in polished aluminum, and gracefully finished with a bolder Opel Blitz emblem concept. The centerline crease coupled with the distinctive aluminum vertical intakes and outboard LED vertical driving lamps choreograph in harmony to visually communicate power and strength. The distinctive design continues with LED technology, enabling creative headlamp inner shapes that propose a night time signature illumination graphic in the front and rear lamps.

In addition, large flares hug the aggressive wheel and tire package, visually suggesting road confidence to the customer. Thanks to the wide track (front/rear: 1627/1629 mm), the Opel GTC Concept provides a commanding stance, planted by 20-inch rims with 245/40 R20 "red line" styled rubber. The wheels reference the motor sport aesthetic of black rims - however, elegantly finished with high- gloss black spokes contrasted with machine polished edges, alluding a signature performance wheel look.

The GTC Concept's rear visual solutions strategically echo the design language of the nose with an integrated rear bar and blitz emblem resting on the distinctive Opel rear center crease. Sophisticated surface development sculpturally integrates the rear spoiler into the sheetmetal to visually communicate performance. The rear appearance features Opel signature shaped rear lamps, uniquely displaying a LED night lighting graphic showcasing the exterior brand identity. The smart exterior shape and aerodynamic characteristics are rewarded by the cD value of 0.25.

The Interior design: Warmer and more inviting
Opel's interior designs have progressed to become warmer and more inviting in products like the new Corsa, Antara and Opel GT. However, the Opel GTC Concept significantly represents the next chapter of Opel's interior brand identity. Echoing the exterior, the interior shapes and surfaces are sculpturally-crafted to visually articulate a dynamic driving experience. The dashboard's top-pad wraps around from the instrument panel to the door, embracing the occupants. The sweeping décor dynamically stretches one's eye from the surfaces of the door and instrument panel, creating a memorable environment. The horizontal theme is secured with a large integrated centerstack design floating above the décor surface, an appearance reminiscent of premium audio equipment.

Complementing the exterior material theme, matte ebony surfaces are contrasted with rich high-gloss piano black décor finishes and structurally elegant aluminum accents, revealing a new standard of Opel aesthetics. The U-shaped aluminum graphic on the steering wheel is reflected again on the center console and the gear shifter, visually connecting the driving interfaces to emphasize Opel's driving dynamics. The rotating navigation control is ergonomically positioned, allowing it to easily be located and controlled by the driver, without having to remove his/her eyes from the road. The four, sporty, round instruments encircled by translucent rings are backlit in dynamic red, replacing Opel's traditional amber tones. These interior appearance solutions intentionally reinforce the dynamic ownership experience Opel provides.
As a final identity concept, the refined "redline" graphic of the tire pattern is vertically woven into the contoured sport seat surfaces and the centerline of the steering wheel, proposing that a visual performance identity can be distinctive without compromising taste.

Intelligent packaging: Compact exterior with spacious, flexible interior
With the lower seating position and vertical hip point ? known as the H-point? , both front occupants sit perfectly integrated in the car. Thanks to the lower-set instrument panel, outward visibility remains excellent. This also provides a generous sense of space, an effect strengthened by its color: the instrument panel's upper section is dark, while the lower section is light.

The intelligent packaging is further highlighted by plenty of space in the rear of the Opel Concept car, despite its flat roof line: rear headroom is 920 millimeters. The rear seats are set low, but the four-seat, two-door car still offers Opel's brand-typical flexibility thanks to a novelty developed by Opel engineers: the "Flex4" interior concept (patent application submitted).
"Flex4" enables the backs of both the rear seats in the Coupé concept car to be moved forward separately at the touch of a button via sensor-control and docked to the front seats. The luggage compartment cover is thereby automatically pulled over the remaining seat surfaces in the floor. This creates a three or two-seater with a flat load floor up to 1.80 meters long. Luggage compartment capacity increases from 500 liters to 755 liters (three-seater) or up to 1020 liters (maximum capacity: up to waistline).

Powerful engine and intelligent four-wheel drive system
The Opel GTC concept car is powered by a turbocharged, 220 kW/300 hp, 2.8-liter V6 gasoline engine with two variable camshafts, which is combined with a six-speed manual transmission. Maximum torque of 400 Nm is available from 1850 up to 4500 rpm, and accelerating from zero to 100 km/h is calculated to take around six seconds. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h.

The power from the high-tech turbo engine is channeled via an advanced, electronically-controlled four-wheel drive system, which is fully integrated into the car's adaptive IDSPlus chassis management system. An electronically-regulated torque transfer device seamlessly distributes power between the front and rear axles for optimum traction and driving performance. The high-speed control allows more power to be provided to the rear axle before any traction loss can occur, for example during quick acceleration. This creates a driving feel similar to a sporty rear-wheel drive car. An electronically-controlled limited slip differential at the rear axle provides additional stability and traction thanks to torque distribution between the rear wheels.

Major benefits of the Opel GTC Concept's intelligent four-wheel drive system are: optimum traction and stability in all driving conditions as well as excellent agility and an active driving feel.
